Wikipedia Blocks 'Disruptive' Edits From US Congress

Wikipedia has blocked editing rights from some computers at the US House of Representatives ins response to "disruptive" revisions of the online encyclopedia. A 10-day ban imposed Thursday blocked any editing from an IP address at the US Capitol, which is shared among a number of computers. "You have been blocked from editing for a period of 10 days for persistent disruptive editing," a  Wikipedia  posting said. The move came after unusual revisions were pointed out by  Twitter  account  @congressedits , which describes itself as "a bot that tweets anonymous Wikipedia edits that are made from IP addresses in the US Congress." The account was created by a software developer named Ed Summers. Some of the changes, which were later undone, said that John F. Kennedy's assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted "on behalf of Fidel Castro" and that the news blog Mediaite was "sexist" and "transphobic." While Wikipedia allo

India Has Higher Smartphone Usage Than the US: Study

Smartphone users in the country have amon g the highest rates of smartphone usage daily globally, spending over three hours on an average on their devices, a study by telecom equipment maker Ericsson published on Tuesday finds. According to the study, Indian users spend 3 hours 18 minutes on average everyday with their smartphones, of which one-third time is spent on apps. Also, there has been a 63 percent increase in app usage in the past two years, the study added. Seventy-six percent of existing mobile broadband users (respondents) said they are willing to pay more for guaranteed better mobile data experience. "India has higher smartphone usage compared to even the US, where the average is 132 minutes (2 hours 12 minutes). Xiaomi Mi 3 Sold Out Within 40 Minutes in India, Claims Company

Xiaomi claims the first batch of Mi 3 smartphones in India was sold out within 40 minutes of its availability. The smartphone went on sale at 12pm IST on Tuesday via Xiaomi's exclusive online partner in India,  Flipkart . The company, also referred to as 'China's Apple', confirmed the news on Twitter and said, "Thanks for the overwhelming support! We are working hand in hand with Flipkart to improve your buying experience." The Chinese handset maker also posted an image of the Xiaomi Mi 3 that said, "38-Minutes 50-Seconds Sold Out." It's worth noting that Xiaomi has not revealed the total number of units sold on Tuesday. Micromax Launches 32-Inch LED TV via Snapdeal at Rs. 16,490

Phone maker Micromax on Monday launched a 32-inch LED TV which would be sold exclusively on e-commerce platform Snapdeal.com. This is the first time Micromax has entered into a strategic partnership with Snapdeal.com to launch its latest offering, the e-retailer said in a statement. Priced at Rs. 16,490, 32-inch LED TV (Micromax 32T42ECHD) has features like a Zero Dots LED panel, narrow bezel design, ultra-low power consumption, USB play supporting all 'audio and video formats', as well as HDMI and VGA ports to give additional viewing options, it added. The smartphone manufacturer had ventured into the panel market in October 2012 by launching its range of LED TVs. Rajesh Agarwal, Micromax Managing Director and Co-Founder, had then said: "Televisions [are] a natural progression. Xiaomi took the wraps off its latest flagship smartphone, which as expected is called the Mi 4, at the company's "The Journey of a Piece of Steel" launch event. The Xiaomi Mi 4 (16GB) has been priced at CNY 1999 (roughly Rs. 19,400), while the 64GB model is priced at CNY 2499 (roughly Rs. 24,200). The company has set a July release  date  for the China Unicom version of the handset, followed by versions for other Chinese carriers. Xiaomi said it will launch a 4G-enabled version of the Mi 4 in September that will be available outside China.  At the launch event, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun also announced that the company sold 26.11 million phones in H1 2014, which an increase of 271 percent in the same period last year.
